My dad was an engineer and had a DEC PDP-8/E in his office. I remember playing Lunar Lander on it around 1969. The game was loaded from punched paper tape, and the interface was a teletype machine and a big roll of cheap paper. I never won that darn game.

This is the same game my Dad described as having written for fun in the 80's. When did you write this?

I didn't write the game, it was the first computer game I played. I was about 8 years old and it was written by someone else. I think there were lots of versions over time.

I just assumed that it was published in a computing magazine for people to try out on their machines at home. I thought you had actually written it on your device like my Dad told me he did. Nowadays it's too easy to play games, I have tried to rewrite open source games like flappy bird before but changing the background skins and modding Skyrim and stuff like that isn't as satisfying as I think writing a program that you can know as intimately as these <100 lines of code in a lower level language could be. It's like the difference between cooking from an 'add water and heat' mix and being an farmer/hunter.
