I think it is possible to a) be conservative and b) be for legal immigration. I know Kirk has had a lot of negative feedback for this position but I think it is important to remember that America has always been pro-immigration. If you look back historically on times where there was a lot of anti-immigration sentiment, it was typically when Americans felt that immigrants were being imported specifically to undercut their wages--and they were correct in that anger. Note Kirk states that he is for supporting immigrants who can contribute to our society--and that is not the same thing. So, until I see something more convincing I will not be thinking he is pro Open Borders, or Soros backed. Good to question all voices but we also don't want to be pushing out advocates we share the cause with.

Some of the most ardent, patriotic freedom supporters are immigrants. They have lived and fled socialism and want no part of it here. Kirk's stance on legal immigration is spot on.
There is a huge difference between an immigrant who came here legally and is going through the process of becoming naturalized, than one who came in illegally, who is already a criminal as soon as he stepped foot on our soil. It's important not to assume that all immigrants are undesirable...
I do wish, however, the USA would curtail educating so many foreign students in our colleges, and I also think we need a much better process of oversight on immigrants until they become citizens.
