I left one for a hotel recently that was a mixed review and they said that they needed to 'review' the review before it could be published. Lol...

Apparently they wiped every review I've ever left in the last 9 years. No explanation, no notification, no nothing ... just gone. Looks weird to see a profile 9 years old and 0 submissions. Every review for this hotel in the last year is positive, but past a year ago they're still awful. I wonder if that's when they started taking money to remove negative reviews.

Perhaps they realized you were White and that your contribution was just White privilege speaking.

Have you used any foul language, particularly the kind you'd find on Voat?

Lol. Someone downvoted this. I didn't ask because it's bad. I asked because it'd give them an excuse to delete everything he posted.

Leave positive words- "place is very clean" - then post pictures of cockroach. They are just searching for keywords: dirty, disgusting, filth..

Like Yelp they use negative reviews as a means to blackmail companies. Someone will call you and give you a chance to purchase advertising before publishing the negative review.

I had a hilarious call with Yelp, I wish I'd recorded it. They wanted me to buy a premium membership. I kept directly asking "Ok, so you'll delete my negative reviews?" they kept saying yes without saying yes "We'll go over any reviews to make sure they are legitimate" or "We will help you work it out with the customer who left the review" "So I'll be able to get negative reviews removed?" "Often times we find negative reviews are of low quality or invalid" It went back and forth like this for at least 30 minutes.

Same with BBB, it is a racket.

But the BBB does forward all complaints to the states attorney general and what used to be the cfpb. It's all a racket, like you said. A money grab.

Mote 6, you tell me. Yeah, Motel 6 is crap, but if the bar for Motel 6 was set at 5 this one was a 1. I can't even describe how filthy it was. I had never seen such a thing in my life.

EDIT - LOL. Motel 6 is owned by the Blackstone Group. CEO: Stephen A. Schwarzman. Fuuuuuuck

They probably all go around their office singing "Everything Is Awesome!" and pretend some motels aren't shitholes.

Well that pretty much defeats the purpose of the app.

the purpose of the app was to make money for the developer, it was never intended to provide honest reviews

Whilst travelling in Nepal about 6 years ago, I was working in a small guesthouse who was in TripAdvisor's top ten rank for that city. They called us up and asked if we wanted to upgrade the page for a fee, with the idea it would give us more control and encourage more visitors. After declining, the ranking slipped into the 30's. I haven't trusted them since.

It's basically "pay our "protection" fee, or we start posting negative reviews to tank your rating."
