I can respect it.
Their decision is conscious, intentional, and still requires work and discipline.
It is silly, and dangerous for their long term health prospects, but unlike most fat people, they are doing this for a purpose. A purpose that makes no sense to me, but I am aware of how respected Sumo is in Japan. Comparing it to Baseball in America doesn't even begin to cover it.
They also tend to slim down when their career is finished.
And it's kinda fun to watch.
So fuck it, there's exceptions to every rule. Sumo makes my list.

That's all it takes to get banned, folks.

If you don't hate fat people, you don't belong here.

Not all sumo wrestlers are necessarily fat:

This guy was basically pure muscle.

Japan has a very shitlordy culture, but have a lot of respect for sumo. Personally, (and not Japanese) I don't care. I'd be curious to hear from someone more familiar with the Japanese.
Wouldn't want to sit next to one on a plane, though.

Sumo wrestlers have to force themselves to get fat by having "weight gain diets" which is different than your typical Walmart ham. They eat high calorie dense meals such as chanko nabe which is high calorie soup alongside forcing themselves to eat several bowls of rice. They aren't eating twinkies and complaining about how their genetics made them this way.
