From every atheist I've ever met, including myself when I was one, that void is often filled by something else, some sort of addiction or deviant behavior.
Also, most atheists are hypocrites when you get to know them, attributing things to nonsensical forces that may as well be G-d anyway. They're just blind to it.

You're more transparent than most. Sure, all atheists are hypocrite deviants, that argument is all I need to hear to see right through you.

It's only a ruse in your mind. The truth is, plenty move back to theism from antitheism. My extremely unprofessional observation is that it's the atheists who were raised in strict backgrounds who follow this path. I was raised a Jehovah's Witness, moved to atheism when I was 13, danced through theological noncognitivism for close to a decade and landed where I am now after a couple of years studying the occult and ancient theology.
I've met ex-mormons who followed a similar path.
