I was riding my motorcycle on a major highway (rt 75 in florida). 2.5 hour trip, I'm cruising at 5 over the limit with my cruise control on. My right hand wasn't even on the throttle, it was stretch out behind me resting on the right saddlebag. In front of me is a cop. Plenty of distance between us. So much he has enough room to speed up and slow down repeatedly without my ever getting overly close. I was leaving far more distance than typically necessary because he was driving erratically. The sudden speed varying, and nearly drifting off into the barrier (we were in the left most lane) a couple times.

After almost half an hour he pulls one lane over, drops back, looks at me as I pass (no way to miss that I'm not touching the throttle, arm in the breeze behind me remember), slides in behind me and hits the lights. I pull over, shut the bike, take my helmet off and wait for him. He comes up and starts bitching at me for speeding and pacing him.

I keep it polite and friendly and just play confused dumb, asking him to help me understand how I could be pacing him when using cruise control? I always thought pacing meant varying speed to keep, you know, pace? And sorry about the speed, I thought 5 over was acceptable? I've been driving/riding for 22 years, that's what I've always been taught.

After a little back and forth I could see when the light bulb moment hit, where he decided I didn't fit any problem profiles, and he was just being a dick if he continued giving me grief. His demeanor completely shifted to friendly chatting for a couple minutes about bikes and random stuff and then he took off.

Nothing beyond the harassment of dealing with it all happened, but only because I didn't offend him in some way or look like an easy mark. It's incredibly demeaning to have to exercise the same types of skills I use when dealing with angry unfriendly dogs to protect myself from a police officer.

Pulled up beside me in the left land at a red light, noticed I was "texting". In reality, I was chaining a song on my IPod touch. Light turns green he speeds up, cuts me off, slams on breaks to try to get me to rear-end him.

Every time somebody gets profiled or illegally searched or has their property taken from them under civil forfeiture laws I feel personally impacted. It wears away at the integrity of The Constitution as well as the laws of the land and the faith of the people in their government officials. When a cop fucks up and the city has to pay out a settlement to the victims and then that cop gets a slap on the wrist, I feel personally violated, even if it isn't in my hometown. Fuck the Police Unions and fuck the boys club mentality of many police stations. There are too many cases occurring for something to not be wrong systemically.

How is this the only 'right way' to validate my opinion? It doesn't matter if I've been directly involved or not for me to have an opinion on the matter. It also doesn't matter if the bad apples are only few and far between. Each incident affects people and impacts the laws of the land which I am subject too.

They confiscated my multivitamins and prescription meds. I'm pretty sure they're not allowed to do that.

I cannot name a time. The only ticket I got was when I was going to the hardware to pick up a new headlight and it was a ticket for a blown headlight. I replaced the light, got my mechanic to sign off and the ticket was dropped. I think that people create problems more with police than the other way around.

Gave me a fucking stupid and unnecessary ticket for not noticing a "no turning left between 3-7pm sign"

Insurance doubled...fuck that.

This isn't really what I think OP is talking about, but whatever, it's just my grain of salt :3

actually it is, although minor - it does qualify.

I have not personally had a bad interaction with a police officer. Every time I've been arrested I deserved it and showed them respect and courtesy while they did their job and received the same in return. I'm also a white male, so there's that.

Just FYI to anyone else reading this,

Mr psycho copper who then ordered me to get out of the car.

This is actually perfectly legal for the cop to do. It's a dick move for a minor traffic infraction, but the courts have ruled they can do it, and you cannot refuse.

Flashlight still in his hand he went through my vehicle and finds the bong within seconds.

This is NOT legal for the cop to do unless you give them permission OR they have probable cause. They cannot search your vehicle without your permission if all they stopped you for was a minor traffic infraction. Even if they make you get out.
