I'm fine with the legalization of gay marriage, but that doesn't mean I respect the movement yet. To me, it's like they're still in their rebellious teenager phase, when they pull shit like this. We get it, you like sex.

How can you be fine with the legalization of gay marriage and at the same time not respect the movement?

This is so on its head. Gay rights the new conservative cause?

I find it great, now the far right - traditionally the most homophobic - are taking the lead in pro gay rights campaigns, while the left - traditionally the most pro gay right - are preparing counter demonstrations in support for ... some version of political correctness ... I guess.

Isn't this important? To show that gay people are people too in a homophobic area.

I am not even homophobic and I wouldn't want a gay pride parade coming through my suburbs either. In its core, it's a commercialized, loud event which I don't think achieves its goal anymore. It's mainly preaching to the choir, because people who already accept gay people as a regular part of the society don't really need to have the awareness spread to them, and people who are homophobic will just be annoyed by gay people even more due to this event. I honestly don't know what the solution to homophobia is, but I am fairly sure having annual pride parades is not it.

Moreover, carrying out any kind of parade in a city implies a whole bunch of practical issues for the city's residents. I remember I had to go to work during one of the parade days and getting through the city center during the time was a complete mess where everything has been blocked out.

You can be annoyed by gay pride parades without being homophobic.

If I was a homophobe, I don't think gay people parading where I live would give me a very positive image of such people.

Yeah, in the context of a gay pride parade I see your point, but thats historically what parades like this aimed to do.

I think the idea is to provoke them into making a public scene, that way people will finally stand up to their homophobic ways. I think that is better than hiding it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was their intention for arranging this parade.
