Higher efficiency has diminishing returns. The jump from incandescents meager 5% efficiency to even 50% is huge. 100 "watts" worth of lighting now uses aprox 20 actual watts. Going from 80% to anything higher though is never going to pay for it's self.
I don't care if the new lights uses 18 or 19 watts, it just doesn't matter.
The price on these needs to come down. I am an early adopter but at $60 or more a bulb it would cost me a chunk of change to light my house. At $40 a bulb I am in.
