I think the best way we can draw in more people is to promote discussion. Staying civil and level headed with someone would show visitors that this site isn't made for hating others, but but a site where you can have a conversation with anyone and really see what they think.

Honestly I kind of like it like this. When more people find out that we are not fat hatting angry at the world pedos they will come and most likely fuck it up. Sure it would be nice to have more content, but all that attitude and drama was getting the best of me. With that said it would be nice if more less depressing content would make it to the v/all page.

There will be either SJW front reporters writing well-intentioned and semi-malicious articles or clueless reporters that keep on echoing the same shit while not taking time to check out the actual site. SJW's will googlebomb their favor writers keeping their reality on the first page of google.

Not that we have to act horrible, but maybe a little bit of sleeze will control the flow and keep out the uglier part of the clueless redditors with novelty accounts, communication only in memes and karma hording. Give voat time to grow slowly. Lets use this taint of sleeze to our advantage.

The Voat Goat is adorable. I'd be flooding with goat memes and gifs.

Don't shift public perception. Let them think we're all trash. If the people too fucking stupid to learn for themselves join, we will become reddit.

This. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Thanks for reading my rant, and for sharing your well designed subverse! It looks like Dan Carlin is a University of Colorado Boulder Alumnus? I don't know anyone remotely in that area, but perhaps one of our large Voat-user base has some sort of ties. Best of luck!

By continuing what we are doing. We as a community are improving Voats image by just being us.

Frankly, I think you're asking the wrong question: I believe this place is such a haven for good discussion and community precisely because it hasn't spent any time worrying what other people think about it. Bending over backwards to have a positive public image is what ruined Reddit; no need to make the same mistake again.

I agree with you on the better overall conversation bit, but the other site's issues lie mostly with corporate interests more than their PR efforts. Don't get me wrong their "we screwed up" PR attempts were terribly bad. But, their bad PR efforts came out necessity to cover up efforts to monetize/raise capital for investors. This is why Victoria was fired, right? They wanted to change the formatting for the AMA's, and she did not like the suggested changes.

Yes, but a big part of that, and the reason for the initial wave of people here, was because they decided to cut out "offensive" portions of their own community in an effort to become more acceptable on a public level. The problem isn't that they wanted more money, it's that in pursuit of it they tried to "sanitize" the site's image by excising communities like r/fatpeoplehate. The root of the problem was this focus on achieving a clean, positive public image.

The thing of it is, PR is the antithesis of good discussion. One of the reasons you don't tend to get great debates on Facebook is because people type comments with PR in the backs of their heads. "What will this make me look like," "what can I post that will get the most likes so I can 'win' the argument," etc. The best conservations are the most honest ones, and those are created when people don't have to worry about whether their comment will seem too offensive or extreme.
