"Organic" is a meaningless phrase. You should be buying free-range, hormone-free meat. Vegetables don't matter if they're "organic" or not, those just tend to be much higher quality. If you buy at a farmer's market, you'll beat the price in stores every time.

Ex farm employee here, or rather occasional farm hand.... In canuckistan organic is a certification that your farm has been inspected and does not contain certain products (pesticides, herbicides etc, feed for livestock) on site... Whether you use them or not.... as long as they are not on site.

It's a piece of paper saying someone inspected your property. Thats about all it's worth. I'd say most small hobby farms, farmers market are more organic then certified organic commercial farm jobs.

So some farms are "organic", and usually the food is in worse shape and less nutritious then a farm that is not organic since pests and diseases usually yield lower quality product.

It's the same as fresh vs frozen... Frozen veggies are usually frozen right at the farm. And are way more nutritious then fresh which is picked before it's ripe and shipped on trucks and boats all over the world. It looses tons of nutritious value as it "ages"

Defrost frozen meat in ice water for the best taste. Cook frozen vegetables without defrosting.

It's true about the nutritional content.

I called this way back when. My wife buys organic all the time and I'm like no fucking way organic is not a label it's a lifestyle it's a farming technique it's labor-intensive there's no way true organic food can be produced so cheaply as it is today in my grocery store it's just a way to increase the profit line. But women being what they are I don't want to hear it they want to believe what they're doing is right fucking cognitive dissonance. I can only imagine how much fucking money I wasted on this fucking bullshit. You think it's going to stop my wife from buying_((organic))) ? Slaving away cutting wood just a shit it down the toilet.

It's all about the certifiers: Oregon Tilth, CCOF, a few others are trustworthy (for now, if the FDA allows gmos into organics, then it won't matter anymore).

Many others, esp. QAI, can easily be bought off.

This is kind of scary, which is why my wife insists we avoid corn and soy as much as humanly possible: https://www.securingindustry.com/food-and-beverage/organic-food-fraud-farmer-commits-suicide-ahead-of-prison/
