The phrase I included just prefaces their envy.
Them being the ones that declared war on Germany, not vice versa, then refusing their several peace offers, is the real story here.
Also because it adds a "what??" factor to try and entice people into reading the information instead of just going 'oh...' then scrolling by.
Clickbait is only clickbait if there isn't any worthwhile information to be had... okay, it's still 'clickbait,' but still.
Also, check the other link I posted. It gives a lot of information on the peace stipulations offered.

Churchill had fake invasion war plans leaked to Hitler so he would declare war on us. The US at the time was not interested in going to war.
We tricked Hitler into declaring war so we would have no choice but to fight.

I know WWI & II are basically the same war, but there was still an official declaration of war against Germany by the British Empire several years after the 'official' end of WWI
