How could the manufacturers release the Pi 4 with this incredible flaw? This is so irresponsible. I was all set to order a Pi 4 as soon as it became readily available, but this bit of fecklessness makes me think my money would be better spent on other things.

Heatsinks have always been a good idea for the Pi's. I think at this point it's just expected the aftermarket will take care of it for them.
I don't really get the idea of these powerful versions, I always thought the goal was cheap and low-power.

It's always been a good idea. You don't need one if you're running your 4 headless and not demanding a lot from it. The PoE hat has a fan (no PoE hat for the 4 yet, afaik) and let's face it, PoE is another feature that you probably want on your pi.

Okay, I found a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B case with a cooling fan on Newegg ... here's the URL: https://www.newegg.com/p/1W8-00Y1-00029?Item=9SIA6TJ9GC7979 ... it's mailed from China, unfortunately, so it'll take a while to arrive, BUT it should fix the idiot flaw in the Pi 4. Besides, it looks like we won't start getting the Pi 4 itself until the middle of next month or so anyway.
