I would say 75% of the pills are just high doses of stimulants like caffeine and guarana (more caffeine) mixed with bullshit. The caffeine suppresses the appetite somewhat. There's another 24% out there that's just entirely bullshit. 1% are fat absorption blockers and those make you poop when you fart. No thanks. Almost none of them get FDA testing so you don't know if they're turning your liver into a hellhole.

I've heard that the fat absorption blockers are very effective, but should only be used if you're EXTREMELY overweight. Like surgery is the other option you have, overweight. It doesn't fix the problem with your diet either.

I, personally, am very skeptical and stay away from them. Seems like a waste of money.

It's important to take a month off between it. But it does work. When I know I'm gonna be putting my body on display for everyone I take it 2 weeks from show time. I can normally drop 10 pounds of fat and I don't carry much fat at all.
I wish I could get an accurate body fat percentage. Then I might be able to tell you were I am. But calipers put me at 5 to 7% and the body scans put me at 5.3% or less. I know I'm not that low. But it does help shred me up before a day at the waterpark.

Seems like pseudoscience, but as a pre workout they can be useful to a degree.

Fat burner pills are mostly targeting people who want to lose weight quickly without busting a sweat. The only fat burning method I've found to be reliable is this one.

As far as I can tell, there is no factual evidence that any fat burning products actually do anything. As /u/Erroneous stated, most of these pills are filled with legal stimulants such as caffeine, and there is no evidence that stimulants will cause you to significantly burn more energy.
I feel like anybody can just throw a proprietary blend of whatever together and market it as whatever they want.
This isn't that far from the truth. the FDA has a fairly loose set of regulations when it comes to oversight with supplements. Essentially, manufacturers are responsible for the self regulation of their products, and they aren't allowed to market products that are mis-branded. This means that as long as they refrain from making verifiably false statements, and the contents of the product aren't known to be harmful, they can put just about anything they want in there.

Fat burners can work as shown with ECA and ECY stacks. Fat burners most definitely work but there are a supplement and not a replacement for a proper diet and work.
Examine list of fat burners together with the matrix of how effective they are based on a body of evidence
