I gotta watch Brazil. People keep mentioning it. I saw Equilibrium, that was entertaining but didn't make me think.

IDK, SF has always been so hit and miss, mainly miss. Not to mention that many films with a SF setting -- for example set in the future or in some alternate reality -- are actually some other genre, such as horror.
If you watch a shit tonne of SF films then I can understand that you'd get the impression that the genre is dying. But there was a preponderance of crap SF in the 60s, 70, 80s...
If you haven't seen Ex Machina then be sure to put that on your list; it's great SF and great movie making. Otherwise here's a couple older films that are not great SF but just plain fun to watch: Ice Pirates and Flash Gordon.

Saw Ex Machina, I liked that one. Was a decent flick for sure. Have not seen Ice Pirates. Wrote that down. Have seen my main man Flash Gordon though.

Automata: Robot Freedom
Knights of Sadonia: Anime series, haven't watched the second season yet, but the first was quite good
Black Mirror: BBC Twilight Zone like show
Primer: Realistic look at time travel and how mind bending it is, tends to take more than one viewing
Troll Hunter: Fantasy (cause there are trolls) but very well done, Documentary/found footage style movie
... all on netflix
edit: Formating

Oh my, you have to watch season 2 of Knights of Sidonia, I can't wait for season 3 if they follow the Manga story line (I made a subverse for the series/Manga...I'm the only one there:( ).

There are two on Netflix right now I would recommend. Primer and Transfer.
Both movies are best watched if you know nothing about them before you watch them. I will tell you, they are both quiet movies. Not a lot of action. Primer will require some thought to follow along.

Snow Piercer is on netflix and is pretty good. Predestination (yes, ok, The book was better) is worth a watch. Just rewatched Dark City recently, so that's on my mind. Brazil was mentioned, definitely out there and a cut above. Moon is pretty recent and didn't really get the credit it deserved. Along those lines, Pandorum was alright, had a budget. Forbidden Planet is an oldie, and if you can get past the animation style, tells a really interesting tale.

I loved snowpiercer - I went into it not expecting anything, and was completely blown away.

I'll check out Brazil, I've seen the rest. Predestination was cool. Great movie imo.

OK, ignoring the bigger names, which I assume you've seen already, here are some suggestions:

Dark Star is awesome. Everyone should watch Dark Star.
[–] IveSeenYouNakid [S] ago
I haven't seen any of these but coherence. I'll start with Dark Star right now. Thank you.

Ghost in the Shell, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and maybe Blade Runner.
[–] IveSeenYouNakid [S] ago

Shit, man. Uuuuuh...
How about this?

As well as all five versions of Blade Runner that were included on the 5-disc Ultimate Collectors Edition?
