Weird. It's unlikely that both brothers happened to be psycho. Something drove them to this insanity. There is something we do not know yet.

Guns don't kill people.

Knives don't kill people.

Assholes kill people.

Now why don't some people understand that?

Mental health is important and should probably get more attention but I don't that universal healthcare is the solution. It may be, however, it may not be. There are other ways to promote mental health and help make treatment more attainable besides universal healthcare.

I don't like that universal healthcare is where so many people go automatically. It isn't a magical bandage. It has downsides.

So, did they stab these people in their sleep or what? I mean, you'd have to be some kind of ninja surgeon to stab 5 people to death before a single one of them runs away or musters an effective defense if they can see it coming.

Read the article. It looks like two teenage kids stabbed their parents and 3 of their younger siblings. They wouldn't have to be that skilled if they attacked the parents first and cornered the other kids.

It's pretty difficult to stab someone to death. Defending yourself against a knife attack with your bare hands isn't hard, only doing it without getting your hands cut up in the process is hard. Hence why defensive wounds are such a good indicator of how a fight went down. I'm not saying I'm some kind of knife fighting expert, but it's a lot messier than just sticking the pointy end in and the person is instantly dead.

Only the police and military should have knives! Ban anything pointy! WON'T SOMEONE PLEEEEAASSEE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!

I think we can all agree that what happened to that family is a terrible, goddamned shame. But this is a result of mental illness, and that is what needs to be addressed, not the weapons that were involved (which is what the snarky comments are pointing out.) It doesn't matter if they were killed with a gun, a knife, a hammer, or a Wii remote. Genuinely disturbed people will always find a way to harm others in one way or another, so our government and our healthcare system both need to step up and start formulating a better plan to help these folks with mental problems. Simply banning guns, knives, or bricks isn't going to magically stop sick people from killing each other.

The point they are making is that, had this been a gun, the incident would no doubt be used to argue for more gun control.
