Not to try to belittle this project or anything, but for anyone who doesn't know, Minetest is also a pretty decent Minecraft-like game: http://www.minetest.net/
No Java (runs natively), and also has binaries available for multiple platforms (including Android). It exists in some Linux distro's repos as well (was a real nice surprise to see it in Fedora).

Once the game comes along a bit more I may indulge in running a small server for a time. Take me back to those happy old days of extensive, and entirely useless, tunnel making.
Minecraft runs pretty darn well no? As much as I'm not a huge fan of Java, Java is fast and Java is portable. We have Minecraft running on every damn device known to man (for better or for worse), gotta thank Java (and OpenGL) for that.

After a quick Minetest verse Truecraft Google search, I came across http://terasology.org/ ....Probly going to have to jump ship over to that.
