The 10mm is really nothing more than a 357 Mag in Auto Form. It fires the same weight slug at the same velocity. I just don't get all this crap abut carrying hand gun for self defense against animals. Wild Horses, Wild Mules, Bears, and even a mountain lion are hard to kill and a hand gun just don't cut it. You should be carrying a 12 or 10 gauge shot gun loaded with slugs.

357 is basically a 9mm. I’m not out hunting. I’m not carrying a long arm around larping like I’m in some jungle safari. I’m out exploring parts of the country playing cowboy and exploring mines. Not looking for a gunfight

Shotgun with a sling with slugs and buck. I’m surprised having a close call like that you’d think a pistol would suffice. I carry a 357 or nine always and if I feel the need a shotgun. Wife is usually with me too and she’s got her nine as well ALWAYS. After a weird experience in the PNW I’ve been looking into upgrading the 870 to a semi 12 gauge.

Get a Glock 20 or 29 10mm. Both are awesome and very manageable. The 40mos is sweet too but it's probably too big for much practical use.

Too big in terms of? A 40cal is the same size (diameter) of a 10mm, just with a shortened cartridge

A glock 10mm is just big dimensionally. If you have small hands the grip could be too much. Also it's way too big for concealed carry. Still they are great guns in general.

10mm for wild life bigger than a hog

Edit: since you're a Glock fag (no shame in that) get yourself a Glock 20

Lever-action rifle and a revolver both in .45 Colt with hollowpoint bullets. .45 Colt brass (at least the Starline stuff) can be safely loaded to magnum pressure levels, and a .45 bullet is going to make a serious impression on even a 1000lb animal.

When your dealing with big game velocity is you friend. A 9 mm out of a 10 inch barrel is better than a 308 out if a 1 inch barrel.

You carry a gun like this in a leg holster https://ibb.co/HCLd7VF

Or somthing kike this https://ibb.co/0Mk0dmv

If you put enough 9mm on target it will stop a mule

This is true. But we wouldn’t of had the time to do that. It was one of those “Right the fuck now, or we are bailing off a cliff” moments.

Is there any reason you can't carry a rifle?

We was booze cruising the back trails behind his house. We had my AR in his buggy, but that was 100 or so yards behind us

So you don't need a new pistol you need to front sling that rifle when you are out there.
