If you are going to make a concession for one religion, then you can never turn down concessions for other religions without being a hypocrite. I say its only fair if they also make concessions for all other religions.

I had a classmate from Kuwait who blew my mind by telling me "no, interest is against my religion." He basically then proceeded to explain it like "they buy my car then I pay them an agreed upon markup so they make a profit. I can make payments or just pay once. It's a good deal and it's definitely NOT interest. I can't explain it but it's definitely not interest. Very different." Never made sense to me. Meh.

I can't explain it but...
This quote seems to be the hallmark of every religion.

Agreed. I think in this instance he was meaning that he couldn't fluidly say it in English (he struggled with it a lot). Yea, I couldn't bring myself to describe interest as being the... EXACT FREAKIN SAME THING. I didn't have it in me.

I'm atheist but not a huge fan of usury myself. I think the government should have a monopoly on credit.

Is this a joke or are you serious? No part of American policy, opinion or politics should be based in any religion whatsoever.

It's just structured differently. The person still ends up out of pocket by the same amount. It would also be open for non-Muslims to use if they want to. Think of it like halal food. You still have to pay for it and you don't have to be Muslim to eat it.

I remember when I first came across sharia banking thinking "if you really believe in your god do you really think he is going to fall for this shit?"

Totally not reading the linked article, or comments on this thread at all:
Sure, so long as everyone else who isn't a Muslim or any other religious identification can also get zero-interest home loans.
