I'm not a console gamer because I'm both. I know I know, that makes me sound like an over-privileged asshole, and It's true in some regards, but just try to remember that my job subsidizes my awesome computer and I subsidize my own console gaming, and it's pretty much the only entertainment value I spend money on. All my other funds go to keeping the lights on and bread on the table. You know, metaphorically.

Console, most of the time, for pretty much exactly the reason in the article. I want to play games and spend time with my wife and kids -- not hang in the office on the PC.

Why not both? I play on PC mostly but sometimes I come in and play some 2 or 4 player game on the playstation with one of my brothers or my dad.

Yeah, I do sometimes, but mostly console.
[–] g33k3ss 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
I do both. My first non-arcade gaming experience was a console. I tend to buy subsequent games I first played on console for the console still (Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Mario, Silent Hill, God of War, Final Fantasy...). I first started playing FPSes on a computer, however. I've found I just can't adapt my play to the console. How do you aim without a mouse?! Lately, all my new games have been for the computer because I don't have to share it with my son.

At the end of the day, current-gen consoles are just overpriced laptop computers with blu-ray drives and a proprietary operating system with DRM. The fact you can use a controller on your PC and soon with the Xbox you'll be able to stream PC games to your Xbox, eventually everything will converge (save for a few console exclusive games, not the timed exclusives).
It's a good article. I have both, a fairly new gaming rig and XBone...but I end up on the XBone more often just because it's a pain in the ass to pull out the keyboard and mouse and rearrange everything to play that way. Having kids running around throwing shit everywhere also doesn't help. So eh...console for the convenience, PC if I'm getting seriously back into an FPS or RTS.
Consoles get more platform exclusives!
Anyone who says this is talking out of their ass, and i generally just disregard everything the person says as fanboyism.
The problem with consoles is that they are pretty much only good for: Fighting, Sports and not much else. Whereas on PC the nichemarket has always lived and fared well. There are no strategy games for consoles, there are no good RPGs for consoles. Hell anything i would like to play just does not exist on consoles.
Then again this new generation was a bust. They are just weak PC:s without the capability of upgrade.
Love consoles and grew up on them but for me PC gaming is generally more fun because sometimes the modding and building the computer itself is the fun for me. There are others out there that would rather pull their own teeth out then do that and to each his/her own but for me I just enjoy the PC platform much more because of the flexibility and the fun I get out of it.
The only traditional console I own at the moment is the WiiU mostly because it's such a unique experience and because I can't get enough Zelda/Mario games. I still play much more on the PC though. I do have the shield console but I'm not sure where to put that. I play my PC games on it streamed but I also have about 5-6 emulators that are really fun as well so it's somewhere in the middle.

I really like this line:
I'm a console gamer because my friends are console gamers, and because console gaming still supports physical media to some degree. My low bandwidth cap means I can't download whole games at a time and I rely on physical media to play. Neither of these reasons are things that I control, but are inherent in my environment.

This is a good point. In the end it doesn't really matter what platform you game on, as long as you have a good time. That is what gaming is all about.
[–] ChillyHellion 0 points 4 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago
I don't think anyone can say it much better than that :)

I game on everything because it makes no sense to limit myself to any specific avenue. Given the choice, I'm not sure why anyone would. I think people generally start to polarize their viewpoint when they have access to one kind of device, and not another.

If you have the time, money, and bandwidth then that makes sense. But many of us have a limiting factor or two that limits us to our "best fit" system of choice.

The whole approach to the article was great. I actually really liked his point about not having comfortable PC gaming furniture. I'm actually having the same problem with my consoles right now. Ever since we mounted the TV above the fireplace, I've had to crane my head up to see. It's awesome when I'm watching TV from the recliner. It's terrible when I'm on the edge of my seat gaming.

Interesting. I am the polar opposite. Lots of my friends have consoles, but I don't like most of the games they play. There are always 1 or 2 games for each console that I really want to play, but I don't consider that worth the purchase of a console. When I was living in BFE, I would take my case to my friends place and download games.
