Plan for this year is to finish my second 100k (3rd attempt). How am I going to do it? By staying alive during the race and by doing a lot of walking between now and then. Because I know I won't be running the whole thing.

Wow good luck. I've read about ultras; drinking mutation dew during the race, walking every incline, and not letting your mind get the better of you. Good luck out there.

I've completed a 50k, first attempt at a 100k in october... we canz doo eet!

Also... don't do what I always do (5k-ultra) and take off too fast feeling great and crawling the last 3rd of the race...

I always do that. Unless I pee in the first mile, I always take off too fast. No matter how much I remind myself not to. Good luck to both of us!

Walking is so important so it sounds like a plan. I'm a terrible walker and have to do a gentle jog to keep up with experienced walkers. That's only on the uphills though as it's running the rest of it.

I'm working up to doing a half marathon within 6months and a full within a year. A year ago I wasn't able to run a full mile, a month ago I ran my, first ever, 5k in 31:04. I plan on working up towards a half by doing the following:

two 5k's a week + 1 hill run for a couple of months and then

3-4 5k's a week for a couple of months and then

one 10k + two 5k's a week for a couple of months and then

two 10k's a week and then

etc. etc. just keep stepping it up, it's all about working on that stamina for me.

When I trained for my first half we were doing a plan that added 10% total millage a week. What most people did with that is kept their same shorter miles through the week and added the extra 10% onto the one long run on the weekend.

Keep up the good work, you'll get to your half in no time.

Its my first year getting into running so I'm hoping for my first 5k at the end of August. My dad and I started the C25K program and I just started week 4. I also started crossfit 2x week and that has quite a bit of running in it. I feel pretty positive about my little goal :)

Sounds like you won't have any issues. How do you like cross fit so fat?

Edit: should be far not fat. I'll leave it. But damn my auto correct gets the best of my phone most of the time.

Haha fat...

I'm loving it so far we have a great trainer, don't think I've ever pushed myself as hard. Thankfully the class times I chose are his smallest group (2-4 others) so its almost like having a personal trainer. I didn't go into crossfit completely out of shape though, primarily just weak upper body strength. I got my coworker to join and shes having a really hard time but she keeps coming back so that counts.

If you're in the UK, don't forget parkruns (5k) every Saturday morning. There will be one near you.

I am in the US. That sounds awesome though, we need something like that! I know theres one in august and then the resort that I work at hosts a big dirty 5k (mud, fire truck hoses) that would be more for fun than anything. Im just hoping to find one that fits both my dads and my schedule.

find your local ultra running "chapter" and they'll be happy to oblige ;)

What's a year for you? Are you talking about the Autumn/Winter season?

If so, I have an 80k ultra at the end of August for which I am ill prepared (have been doing short, fast distances this summer), I have a 27 mile ultra at the end of September, the 8k XC season starts in November and there will possibly be a 33 miler in November and a Half in October. But I imagine lots of short stuff too.

I'm shifting from endurance to shorter runs atm due to some health concerns. I want to get a sub 40 minute 10km and sub 90 minute half marathon. Six weeks ago in my return to training I did a 10km in 42.18 and I have done a half marathon in 92.22 so it is feasible.

The main plan is for two interval sessions a week, plus three to four other runs of different lengths and speeds plus a bit of crossfit.

It has been a shitty year for me. If I can build back up to 50mpw and remain injury free I will be happy.

For this year: run my first ever 10K race. Maybe run a second 10K race 6 weeks after the first, but I'm currently planning for a half marathon in either march or april next year. Judging from the way the half goes to see if I'm fit for a full marathon next year.
