A 9mm polymer pistol, with slide-mounted safety yet... not too futuristic, though certainly more modern than the Makarov.
It is a different 9mm round than the NATO, but with no more power. Apparently the extra length (21 mm) is to accommodate the armor piercing bullet, which is of some interest but doesn't sound like a game-changer.

A shame that thanks to Clinton (also Obama) we can't buy Russian guns for the most part. On this one, though, I'd pass, I don't really see the advantages, except possibly over some other 9mm's. Slide mounted safety is out for me (personal taste.) Hate those, completely unergonomic.

IKR! I wish I could buy a Stechkin. Not because they are great, but because they are so strange, and nobody has one around here.
