How does it hold them up with the weight of their gigantic balls?

I'm sure it's sturdy, but you wouldn't catch me on that!

"In the past, we got people into the industry by word of mouth - through a relative or scaffolder friend. It helped to have someone they knew who they could be apprenticed under," said So Yu-hang, who is director of Wui Fai Holdings, a member of the Hong Kong and Kowloon Scaffolders General Merchants Association, and scaffolder for over 30 years.

I found this related article online. Bamboo Scaffolders are a dying breed - Not sure how seriously to take it though based on the name of the guy.

[EDIT - to make the name more obviously stand out]

When I grew up in Hong Kong, you saw this all the time. You would see 40 storey tall buildings from bottom to top covered in bamboo scaffolding. When you think about it, it must be super cheap, really strong, and biodegradeable.

"Okay, it worked with a 200 meter building, now let's try 210!"

People think this is crazy, but the crazy thing is this technique has been used for almost 3000 years! The Great Wall of China was built using bamboo scaffolding. The fact this technique has endured in modern construction zones still amazes me and says a lot about the crazy bastards who developed this in the first place.

How many people do you think died from this technique in 3000 years? We've come a long way since then, lives are not expendable anymore.

It makes sense, bamboo is incredibly robust and flexible, cheap and light. Also it grows very fast, in many places and generates very little waste (it can be recycled, burned for heat, etc.) It would be crazy not to use it ! Bamboo is fascinating, it has so many uses..
