I don't see where it's a child protection issue. Pedos are going to prey on kids no matter what the law is. Getting married at 15-16 used to be fairly common, and folks stayed together their entire lives.
I would never of wanted to get married that young, and don't think that 25+ year old men should be marrying 16 year olds, but I don't know what more laws are going to help.

A 16 year old is literally not physically or psychologically mature. There is no such thing as a mature 16 year old. Their brains aren't even fully formed. There are people who perhaps behave more like adults but that's a stupid metric because then what's the flip side? We take away the adult rights of 28 year olds who act like teenagers?
@carmencita - would you consider doing a post about it on v/pizzagate - thanks.

https://archive.ph/TlUr2 :
'Conservative Republicans in Louisiana this week shot down legislation aimed at setting a minimum age requirement marriage in their state, as they argued that some 15 and 16 year olds should have the right to get married. '
'Additionally, the law would require some sort of judicial process for anyone under the age of 16 to get married. '
'NOLA.com reports that conservatives in Louisiana’s state legislature have rejected setting hard minimum age requirements for marriage, and instead voted to continue the current policy of allowing people under 18 to get married with parental consent. '
'The Baton Rouge Advocate reports that GOP Rep. '
' Stephanie Hilferty supports setting the minimum age for marriage at 17, which she believes would provide less cover for sexual predators and human traffickers to have their abuse of underage girls legally sanctioned by the state.“This is to make sure we don’t have people covering up acts of rape as a marriage,” she explained. “This is a child protection issue.”'
