while "gnostic" does mean "to know" or "knowing" its the name of an underlying philosophy that you can escape this realm/ascend to godhood/save yourself by holding a specific kind of knowledge, by achiving gnosis or by extent through works in general

I always figured if "agnostic" meant "don't know / don't care" then "gnostic" meant "knows / cares"
