Fascinating article. That last I’d heard of this was a Google employee living in a cube van in one of the company’s parking lots. He was showering, using the washroom, and usually eating inside the office building.

The two things at fault are the local residents preventing high rise residential development (which is their right to do) and the employees themselves for staying in such a bad situation instead of finding a job in a less expensive area. They might even be able to continue their current Google jobs via remote work.

Two years ago, about 500 local residents showed up at a meeting to discuss small, temporary housing in San Jose. Many screamed and shouted at Loving and her colleagues. At one point, the crowd chanted “build a wall” to keep homeless people away.
