When it comes to guns you don't even have to cry. I have a 22 marlin that was less than $400 USD with a really nice scope, strap, and bipod. Old 22's are like old tractors and most used ones are insanely low prices and very accurate at <100yds

Came here to say that. Usually your choices are poor quality items made in china, poor quality made in china then shipped to the US for the final stages of assembly and a much higher price tag to come with the "made in the USA" sticker, or a chinese knockoff. Given that it's all made in china and engineered to fail you're probably best off going for the knockoff and hoping you get something that works.

Buy once, cry once.
My philosophy on guns

You are the shit. That being said I have almost a dozen 22's that cost be less than $700 bucks (and most way less than that)...they can find one they like that doesn't cost me so much per round :P I am pretty sure my brother is going to buy/give my son his namesake rifle at some point :)

So true!! We've learned this the hard way over the years more than once. It is especially true of appliances...you will always, always get what you pay for. If you go cheap you'll just be replacing it in a little while and you'll be annoyed.

If the numbers work out I will sometimes buy the cheap item first and then figure out what I like and dislike about it so that I'm better educated about what to focus on when I'm replacing it. Plus it gives me something to tide me over until I find a quality item on sale.
