The solution is always more money. It's very easy and convenient to say the government just needs to give us more money. Then you read the actual stories like this and it's the same crap every time: "I know I need to eat better, but I like fried chicken and french fries." It is very clearly not an issue of funding. Their only only claim is that there is a choice between paying more for their food or more for their medicines, but here is an idea: why not pay for nothing? No one is paying for my food, and if I needed any, no one would be paying for my medicines (though I am paying for theirs too) and yet by some miracle I'm thin. Nothing will ever improve until we allow the possibility of someone falling through the safety net. I would prefer it be gone completely, but the fact that it is impossible to be so non-compliant and fail so hard and still not screw yourself out of care is the problem. There is no incentive to change when people know that they can refuse to change and all that will happen is the gub'ment will through more money at them.

Adding broccoli to their steady diet of fast food isn't going to cure their high blood pressure. Those doctors are really naive if they think this is going to make them change their eating habits.

They will eat a couple of bananas and broccoli few times a week like a bad taste medicine added to all the food they already eat. So they can pretend to eat healthy.

You can lead a horse to water...

Bringing home fresh produce and choosing to swap it for your pizza are two different things.

It's not a "problem".

It's a conscious decision to eat when you don't need to.

Food isn’t medicine. Food is food. They don’t want to eat real food, they want to eat processed garbage and then they need medicine. Eating a portion of spinach on top of your 12,000 calorie diet of fast food isn’t going to help.

Their expressions are as if they've never encountered produce before. Heh.
