They are called nations... :p There is an economic project going on in new-england where some townspeople made a currency based on labor. It was pretty cool actually. I wish I coudl remember the name. The way it worked was thus: You register your needed job/product. Whoever did that job/provided that product recieved their payment in this labor based currency. That guy could then purchase goods and services from others in the area with that currency. It was a time-barter system. There were even dentists and such doing it. It was open-barter and there were no set prices so haggle away. It was pretty cool. The currency originated from the "printing press" by all of the non-profits in the little community feeding homeless and helping old ladies and shit like that. They could manifest the currency and could essentially get free labor/products. The whole fucking thing was outside the tax system. This would be pretty badass if set up at the various Goats Gulch sites.
These things usually fail because of basic economics and communism. Follow natural law. Engage in commerce, completely outlaw compound interest based debt (pre-paid interest in the form of a 1 time originization fee is fine) and barter and the project will succeed. Catch is anyone who has resources is already balls deep in the old system and likes it. Anyone with no resources can't contribute and needs a massive wealth injection to join (usually in the form of land/relocation/job etc. So a single person puts up the money/land and becomes a dictator or money is pooled and communism is enacted. None of these things work and that is why they all fail.
Just looked them up and that shit is chock-full of liberal faggot communist social justice warriors so I am not even posting it. BUT, the basic structure should be sound if we wanted to try to set up our own.
Yeah... This whole thing makes me think of the "real" story of Thanksgiving. Who knows if it's real but it goes like this. The first year or 2 the pilgrims followed the mayflower compact. This document essentially laid out communism in all its glory. No private property no private production. Everything is communal. They starved the first winter... Many died. So they changed to a system of private property and private production. Under this system they overproduced so much that they had feasts the entire fall. The greatest was Called Thanksgiving!
I always liked this version. Hell, I try to live by it. Sadly most of the world is Communist today.
