Homophilia and obesity are sort of an apt comparison, though. They both have recently become socially accepted, they both come with all sorts of health risks and "lifestyle diseases", they both seem to be socially transmittable (In the sense that people around "sufferers" are more likely to engage in similar behaviors), people who "suffer" from them are more likely to be annoying, and the "cures" for both are equally simple: Just refrain from overeating/homosex.

Mental illnesses often come in waves, yes. We are currently experiencing a homophilia wave, the same way we had a female hysteria wave in the nineteenth century.

What? You do realize that my comment states that obesity is the consequence personal choice/behavior, don't you?

Edit: Let me rephrase it's last sentence: Don't want to be fat? - Stop overeating. Don't want to be a faggot? - Stop fucking dudes.

Homophilia and obesity are sort of an apt comparison, though.

We can't use homophilia as a catch-all phrase, esp. not in the same context with obesity. Numerous researches prove that male homosexuality is on the polar opposite end of the spectrum from female homosexuality (esp. in the case of 'politican lesbians') in terms of obesity - with heterosexuality being somewhere along the median.
But it really is just a confirmation that social stereotypes aren't born without a good reason.

There is a world hamplanet of difference between sexuality and obesity.

Homosexuality is not a disease, and there's nothing to cure. There are some dangers at play if not practicing safe sex, I'll give you that. But being gay doesn't put your kids at risk of being gay. Being gay doesn't automatically shorten your life span, or tax our medical system. It doesn't mean my insurance premiums go up to help cover the inherent health risks with being gay, or to cover surgery to reduce the gayness.

Obesity, on the other hand, adversely affects both the hamplanets health, and the health of any dwarf planets/moons (their kids) that they may somehow manage to produce (I don't know how and I don't care to imagine it). Being fat means a shorter life span and lower quality of life. It taxes our medical system, it causes discomfort to those around it, and it's a genuine safety concern - how the hell am I supposed to escape a burning building if some whale is moving slowly, blocking my path and possibly the door?

Lastly, what the hell is a law professor writing about health concerns for?

That is so messed up to compare those two things, on so many levels. Like, personal beliefs aside, one of those things is literally fucking directly damaging to your health, and one is completely separate from it. It makes me so mad to thing that someone who's gay is getting compared to someone who just can't stop stuffing their face or accept any form of blame. Just really sad.

Who in the fuck writes this tripe?

Never mind. I'm going to sell my business. Then I'm going to start writing this tripe, plus diet books and a fast food chain. Then I'm going to be a millionaire because fatties don't know how to spend money properly.

this guy

to quote:

Outside the legal community, Campos is perhaps best known for his 2004 book The Obesity Myth (later published as The Diet Myth) which reviews medical research on the association between higher body mass and health.[3] Campos's contentions that obesity is healthy were praised by some sociologists and critical theorists, and overwhelmingly criticized by medical, epidemiological, and statistical researchers with professional training in empirical research

I don't even want to read this. I'm bi, and I have only ever told a few people, because being bi and being hot, people assume I'm just bi to be hotter, or for attention, which isn't the case. They have no idea what it's like to hide who you are because you're afraid what people will say about you.
