Funny how Bernie expects productive members of society to subsidize everyone else from cradle to grave, but personally cheaps out on everything.

Bernie: "Supports a $12 minimum wage rising to $15 in 2020.", pays interns in his 2016 campaign $12/hour. Republicans: "OMG, hypocrisy, you should be paying them $15/hour!"

Bernie: "Minimum wage should be $15/hour!"

Bernie: "$15/hour? Are you nuts? I'm not paying that!"

This is exactly $12 an hour more than I got during my congressional internship. Probably not the result OP is hoping for, but my only thought after reading this is that I wish I'd have been in Bernie's district office instead.

Is your point that if elected president he would abandon the effort to raise the minimum wage to $15/hr? You have to remember that he is running a campaign that is competing with some of the most well funded candidates ever seen to this point. Clinton's campaign is projected to raise ungodly amounts of money.

I'm curious if you've looked at what the other candidates are paying their interns? Also, you got this right from his website, so at least he is being transparent.

Doesn't accept Highschool Applications.

I guess any one who wants to work for Bernie is forced to put themselves in incredible debt through an education program we know is in the most massive bubble in history.

Of course we also know that if you aren't in a post secondary institution right out of high school, you're a fucking idiot and couldn't possibly have anything to offer anyone. Right Bernie?

Bernie pays them above minimum wage so what's the problem? As far as I can see he gives people internships, those are not necessarily payed positions and then he pay's them more then the minimum wage.

I am European so I don't know but does he pay them out of his pocket? Because then it's even more admirable.

Edit: TexasComments informed me about Bernies possibilities to pay his interns so I changed my view to agree that he should pay them 15 dollars. So stop downvoating me, lol.

If he were a capitalist no one would care. But he's socialist demanding the minimum wage be raised to $15/hr, so the hypocrisy is overwhelming.

Overwhelming... yeah. I don't think so. He pays them right? It's optional as far I understand to pay interns anything. If it was a payed position and he would pay them below 15 dollars then it would be hypocritical.

Bernie pays them above minimum wage so what's the problem?

Because it's below a wage that he says should be the absolute minimum because anything less is unconscionable.

It's not a matter of legality but of hypocrisy. If he thinks $15 is the absolute minimum anyone should ever get paid legally because anything less is so low that it's harmful to the worker and to society at large. What does it say about him that he pays less than that amount?

No.

Senator’s Official Personnel and Office Expense Account “the Senator’s Account”). This main account ranges from $3 million to $4.7 million and depends on state population, distance from Washington, DC, and the number of postal addresses in the state. This account is used for salaries and all other “official office expenses.” Economic Allocation Fund. Given in two three-year allotments for the purchase of IT and office equipment in all offices. Constituent Services Systems (CSS) funds. This funding is for CSS hardware, software purchases and maintenance. Home State Furniture and Furnishings. A lifetime allowance ranging from $52,000 to $73,000. Senator’s Allowance. A $5,000 allotment for personal office use. Other accounts allot things rather than money. Used for office rent, supplies, and related services. Senate offices may pay for “Officially related expenses” with excess campaign funds. Contact the Senate Ethics Committee for guidance. Senate budgets are prorated for partial years. Check with Senate Disbursing Office to confirm your budget allocations.

So they don't get money for interns? Then it's good to at least pay them something I guess. \

But wtf is this?

A lifetime allowance ranging from $52,000 to $73,000.

Do you get that for ever? Even if you just do 1 term??

I am really curious where the stats are for every other presidential hopeful. I get that people are calling it hypocrisy for Bernie to want a 15/hr minimum wage and only paying them 12/hr and that might be a bit of a fair point, but what is every other presidential hopeful paying their interns. Let's keep the big picture in focus that he is indeed better than every other candidate (in probably every way) and we can debate those other points. He may have some things here and there that detract, but he is only human. Most presidential hopefuls lie directly to your face and nobody seems to give a shit, but take an honest man and try to tear him down over one little outlier about a position that doesn't even require pay in the first place? Seems reaching at best.

GO BERNIE!

To be honest Bernie is not paying his Senate interns what he called "a livable wage". He does not pay his campaign staffers a "livable wage" as most are volunteers and the rest work so much that by hourly amounts they makes less than $7.25 and hour. Other presidential candidates are paying some interns while others are unpaid it depends what the intern asks for when they get the job and what their job entails; social media interns are likely being paid as are any interns who are doing work in the HQ, but "interns" in the field tend to be volunteers more or less because they do not consistently show up on time or at all, speaking from experience.

FUCK BERNIE!

You can say Fuck Bernie all your what, but who is your candidate? what are their opinions? where do they stand? you are providing NO CONTEXT, you are only trying to put him down but he still stands HEADS above every other candidate.

Other presidential candidates are paying some interns while others are unpaid it depends what the intern asks for when they get the job and what their job entails>

But what are they paying them? Why is your candidate or another candidate Better than Bernie? It is easy to try to talk bullshit when you give no context of comparison. If you are going to talk shit and complain about something, you should at least offer a BETTER alternative. Maybe you would just rather live in Anarchy and don't want any president and it should be everyone for themselves?
