Going to a gun show on Sunday. Hoping to pick up either an AR, a hand gun for CCW, or if nothing else a cheap shotgun for home defense. Already saw a mossberg advertised there for 475$.

Nice. Thank you for that. Got any suggestions on a cheap AR or a cheap CCW pistol? I was looking at a Canik for the pistol. and a bunch of different websites for the AR but always lookn for more, of you have any suggestions.

That isn't cheap for a shotgun.

I agree that it is not super cheap for a shotty in general but for this one in particular it is a decent deal. Below is a link to the mossberg website where the gun is listed at 585, and that is for a bare bones stock version. The one that my friend sent me that was advertised also comes with all new furnishings and a carrying bag, I also believe is comes with some type of site. Whether that be some flips ups or a scope idk but I would assume flip ups or something similar. I would say all things considered that's a decent price. Also that is the regular advertised price (in store) by this gun store that is going to be having a booth there. So I am assuming I will be able to haggle them down some also.

Welcome. I try to limit myself to one a year. I may have an addiction.

Congratulations, the reality when discovering new stuff can be intoxicating. Please take it slowly. Spending time at a range, is important. Ballistics is simple, hold out a ball and drop it, if you fire a bullet flat they should both hit the ground at the same time. Bullets have more energy so they travel farther and faster in the process. Economics is simple, don't spend money you don't have, and no matter how many guns you have, the one closest to your hand is the one you need in a critical situation.

Glad to hear you left NJ. Hope you can build a nice collection, some can hold their value, some are just fads, but some really good ones were only made for a few years and seem to be more difficult to come by. The worst purchase I ever made was a 1995 mini-14, but just turned a new barrel for it, and got a nice gun out of it.

Wish you had headed south instead of west. I help the local sheriffs department by buying a $20 permit each year, that I don't even have to have in my state. (The locals are cool here) The department spends a lot of time and money patroling the county. They wouldn't ask you for more than to fill out a questionnaire for their own check on you. Yes, there is still an FBI check if I buy a gun, usually takes 10 minutes. But like thelma, we can make stuff that doesn't need paperwork unless you sell it. I like to make stuff, test it, then use it for parts. It's not that I don't trust the stuff I make, it's just a fun hobbie/challange. Want a gun that looks like a pack of smokes, make it, test it, funs gone, dream up something else.
