Fuck off, they're full. (Not Hawaiian. But, met a couple. You'll just piss them off.)

Hawaii is an archipelago and in the past 30 years has gotten really crowded. Even as a tourist attraction it's not that enjoyable anymore and it's fucking expensive. I'd only go there if I also had a lot of astronomy experience to go with comp sci and they offered truckloads of cash. If you want tropical and inexpensive try Florida but be wary of the gators. There are also some nice up and coming spots in North Carolina which has an area called Research Triangle Park, where a lot of legacy tech companies do some business.

For FL be sure to check demographics, there are some enclaves of shit.

Crime is high in certain areas - parts of Honolulu, any place where there is a high concentration of polynesian hawaiians.

The polynesian hawaiians are the island's niggers.

No tech scene. Just tourism.

No academic culture. Having a brain is considered bad there.

Taxes are high. State strongly supports welfare programs.

The biggest employer here is the federal government. To keep fed pork flowing that state implements any welfare measure they can find.

I hope to live there (specifically Kauai) someday. My husband has a potential to get a job there in 5 years or so. I don’t want to live there for life, just spend a few years there. It’s very $$$.

Just know that, in general, Hawaii is not like it used to be.

Monsanto has decided to experiment on GMOs and chemicals on the West shore of Kauai. The island is beautiful, but don’t live on the west side. Specifically, don’t live near the coffee filelds. They spray them every day and my friend who did live there said the local community near the spraying has a 40% cancer rate. No thannks!

Oahu is getting too commercial, but I went there for over a week last summer and the north shore is still “country.” I hope it stays that way.

Big Island (aka Hawaii) seems to be the most old school and hasn’t allowed Monsanto there. Also it’s big enough to keep a country feel. You’d have to deal with volcanos sometimes there, but it might be worth looking into depending on what jobs are available.

Don’t know as much about the other islands. Just those 3.

@Le_Squish lives on Big Island, I believe. She might have some input.
