The price for good conditioned ones is kinda high right now. People are collecting them. Wait a few years and it's likely to drop for a decade or so, until they start approaching 50 years of age.
Shine a light between the bed and the cab, from underneath it. Look for rust there.
Also, check the front end. The F series, for a few model years, had issues keeping a front end under it. Bushings went fast, bearings wore, etc. It was pretty bad from the late 90s to the early 00s. Jack it up and shake the tire. If it moves from side to side, tie rods. If it moves from top to bottom, bearings.

Sounds like a plan.
The only one I found this week was pretty beat up.
On the other hand, the truck I just got was clearly garaged its whole life, everything is free from UV damage.
