As I understand it, most of the moral code came from the culture and not directly the religion. As the two are so intertwined, it's very hard to tell. Not to mention how many sacred texts/icons that have been destroyed during the dark ages.

Pagan actually meant village, and non-Christian religions in Europe were associated with isolated villagers not being modernized to the new way of doing things like the city folk.
