Sorry, commented right before bed time so I'm a bit late to the party - but as you've probably gathered from the other replies it is definitely worth a buy. If you're referring to the "Mixed" day-1 reviews, those are primarily caused by the bugs that were present at launch. There were a couple of game-breaking bugs that would screw up quests and even make it impossible to progress in the main story in certain situations. Those have all been patched and are no longer an issue.

Another thing people complain about is the combat system; it can seem overly difficult, unresponsive and clunky at first. But that is intentional. You start the game as a blacksmith's son who has never used a sword before, and you seriously suck at it until you get some practice. You'll meet trainers along the way, and get many opportunities to practice and train with NPCs who will teach you skills and level your stats, so you will slowly get better at it.

If you do end up grabbing Sekiro, please do post a review over in /v/gaming - been considering it myself but I am not really a huge fan of Asian RPGs so not sure if I'd like it.

Sounds pretty great! I'm going to check it out.

Not sure if/when I'll grab this one, but have you ever played Demon Souls?

Apparently, in Sekiro, they removed most of the RPG stat building aspects in favor of pure skill combat mechanics.

So you can't ever be "over leveled" for a particular enemy or area.

Never played Demon Souls, no. Googled it and it looks like a PS3 exclusive so that's probably why. From what I've read it is similar to Dark Souls though (which I have played and liked) so I might enjoy it.
