I primarily listen to metal. I have been listening to a lot of indie an folk recently. I will listen to most things there is a lot of rap and country that I don't care for. I tend to like music when it is doing something different from the norm, like having different instruments than the standard guitar, bass, and drums.
I enjoy listening to music in other languages, even though I don't understand the lyrics. It helps to hear the vocals like they are another instrument. One band that I really like for example is called Wagakki Band. Its rock with traditional Japanese instruments. Here is one of their songs called Iroha Uta.

Anything except country music, and can't get enough of Purity Ring at the moment. I enjoy a lot of instrumental "mathy" band like TTNG. My favorite band is TOOL.
My musical tastes vary widely. I'm not overly fond of the new pop crap where they repeat the same word half a dozen times (I'm looking at you Megan Trainor and Taylor Swift). That's like click bait for the ears. If the musician comes up with something absolutely new, or uses odd instruments not normally found in pop then there's something.
My core music though would be Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, Country, and Early Rock Music (Oldies to most people).

Mostly metal, but occasionally you'll catch me listening to classical music, classic rock, blue, jazz, big band swing, sometimes some rap (Tech N9ne is one of my favorites), really I'm kind of all over the place I guess.

I've been getting into Alabama Shakes a lot lately. I created a pandora station with their name and I'm loving everything it's shooting at me.
