Use it to save 20% - 30% on Amazon purchases with Purse.io. I've used it 3 or 4 times now and works great!

At this point you would buy it because you think it might have a use in the future and be worth more than you payed for it now. In other words speculation. Day to day there isn't much use for it yet. Frictionless global money with an API is something that the world hasn't seen before so nobody knows what to do with it yet. ;)

I believe if you get inventive with it you can almost buy anything. Regarding paying bills... here is a Canadian company that I found https://www.bylls.com/. I believe there are others too.

Tell your wife that Bitcoin is a long term investment. You can keep up with your country's politics and economic events but you will never truly know when disaster will strike and will no longer have access to your hard earned savings. Bitcoin is proof that we can have a medium of exchange without the help of a centralized authority. All that is left to do now is educate others about it and use it where you can as a currency.

As far as using it "downtown or at the mall" install Gyft or eGifter and you can buy discounted giftcards with bitcoin while you wait for your meal or are in line at the register. I've done this a number of times and it works great and saves money due to the points, and sometimes direct discounts, you get through these apps.
