Short term yes, long term has major problems. Vegans after several years usually show overt signs of deficiencies, manifest psychological and emotional problems. I knew one who went 6 years, looked worse than a long term meth addict, face all sucked in and bony, skittish about everything... Would not recommend. There is sustainable vegetarian colonies of people on the Earth, no sustainable vegan ones though.
Also search for "why I am no longer a vegan" for many people forced to stop malnourishing themselves due to health problems etc.
Veganism can work short term like a lot of fad diets because of what people take out of their diet e.g. junk food. This happened to me. Longer term the deficiencies accumulate from missing nutriients and the poisons and anti-nutrients that plants make to stop animals eating them.
