Everything gastro/tube related with babies takes forever to develop. Humans are born pretty much when lungs are ready to rumble, a lot of other things (in comparison to other mammals that walk within a few days of birth) take some time to catch up. In short babies get the hiccups, puke, spit up, shit like gooses, and suffer from gas pains much worse than adults because their parts are still getting sorted out.
