Seeing as there was no proper notice given, can the Chicago Police contest the sealing? Can a private citizen's group contest it?
(See the fourth paragraph above. "Additionally, the Cook County...")
The illegal manner in which the case was sealed should mean that there is some way to contest it. Does anyone know?
The Chicago PD released the documents prior to the seal anyway. Apparently they saw the seal coming and decided to thwart it by early release. Notice most news outlets ignore this..... And it's not widely known.

The cases were not dismissed, as I understand it. They were put on deferred prosecution.
This is optics, I think.
Odds are that Smollett is state's evidence for a lot of big Federal stuff.
I do decodes of Trump tweets and the coded messages keep alluding to the Smollett affair blowing holes in some big people:
Barack, Michelle, Harris.
Plus alternate media is finding links from Smollett to other Swamp Creatures like Avenatti. My opinion is that there is A LOT more than meets the eye on Jussie Smollett

The term in the media was DEFERRED PROSECUTION.
What do you mean by "criminal equivalent"? Are you saying the official status of Smollett's case is "nolle pros" ? Yes, there is not a proceeding grinding forward, at the moment, if that is what you mean.
I haven't seen definitive documents about the precise status of Smollett's case. But it doesn't make sense that 16 felonies would be started and stopped in the space of a few weeks. The only logical explanation is that Federal stuff is coming down and he is co-operating.
The authorities said a "deal had been done". What does Smollett have as leverage for a deal, on his side, that can give him a hall pass for 16 felonies ?

This is a LOT OF HEAT to take all to get an Anti-Lynching Bill passed ? Huge exposure potential from the start , all this for a Bill ( Now Law ? ) Why didn't it pass the first time ? Seems to me we need to dig into this. : EDIT : It seems to me this is an effort for "Reparations" to be made to African Americans and to tie up the Courts in litigation to me. They did this all to get their hands on another slush fund and cause Judicial Chaos ? https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/3178/text/es Peace Y
That was my conclusion as well. I can’t help but wonder whether the cover up was a smoke screen to protect the FBI investigation and the corrupt cops outted it or if it was corrupt prosecutors covering his ass for no legitimate reason. With what we know, it could go either way.

FBI looked at Hillary and didn’t want to hurt her feefees so they covered up her crimes.
