Besides what's already been said by /u/RuSyxx, the way Eric was killed was pretty WTF, and it's not like anyone cared for him (okay, well maybe he plays some role in the game, but I've never played the game so I don't know) so it wasn't impactful. Also, the battles are so slow, especially coming off of Fate/Stay Night UBW it's pretty disappointing for ufotable.

I think that everything is slow. Especially the audio. It's like they can't overlap any sounds and it's just one after the other with long pauses between. It stretches and isolates every piece of action so there's no flow.

Still not sold on this one. This episode wasn't quite as bad, but the characters are still very bland. Lindow is just the stereotypical badass mentor. I won't be surprised if he dies later in the season. I don't like how they're like, well you've already proven you can't obey orders. Let's just take this one guys advice and send you out anyway! I don't buy that logic. So we'll see where it goes, but the only real thing I'm enjoying about this is the animation, which is pretty stunning.
On one hand, I'm glad they didn't pull the "We're on the brink of extinction and critically low on manpower but we're gonna jail this fighter anyway because he disobeyed orders" bullshit, but on the other hand they should've avoided this in the first place by not putting themselves in this situation to begin with with the whole "Yeah, we have no soldiers available but NO YOU CAN'T GO OUTSIDE." Plus, the same problems from last week (reinforcements were 20 minutes away but showed up really quickly anyway) apply with the arrival of even MORE reinforcements to the battle.
Then, we have the "Dramatic piano plays over the funeral" for a character we literally saw for like 5 minutes. The only reason I can remember "Eric" is because I think he was the only blonde in the show so far. You could've replaced him with anyone else in the show and the emotional impact would've been exactly the same.
Coupled with Daisuki being an annoying-as-fuck stream (and I'm not in the position to use other means), Episode 3 better as hell impress me because otherwise I'm looking at a drop.
I do agree with the funeral bit, I found it relatively pointless. I feel like it's meant to be that moment to make the MC reflect on his mistakes. For the viewers though, it was just kind of pointless. I still think the whole, I'm going on my own despite orders bit hurt the show right from the get go and I don't think they can really recover. I do hope this new character showing up next episode fixes things. (Seeing as I've seen random comments about 'best girl' showing up next week) So we'll see.

So people don't seem to be too hooked on this show. Honestly I wasn't either at first but this episode made me at least want to stick with it a bit longer. I can agree the characters are a bit bland at the moment but I think, hope, they'll flesh them out a bit more as the show goes on. If anything I'll stick with it for the art. It's stunningly beautiful.
