Vito Corleone from The Godfather is a classic example. Real alphas lead other men, and are loyal to those beneath them in the hierarchy who support them. Being an alpha entails a tremendous amount of responsibility which is why it is associated with high status. Patrick Bateman on the other hand has no real responsibility at all to speak of. He got his job at Pierce & Pierce because of his wealthy family, and he spends the entire novel avoiding all responsibilities and chasing admiration from other people who he considers to be beneath him. That's what gammas do. They see themselves as "secret kings," where they are better than everyone else around them even though no one acknowledges it.

You're missing the point. Bateman is not an alpha at all. Another example of Alpha would be Leonidas from 300. Patrick Bateman has more in common with the hunchback.
