As absurd as it seems to correct Jefferson, democracy is tyranny of the largest group, which is usually not a majority.
The US is not a democracy. We have always put people in place to make decisions, supposedly based on merit. This is what the elections are for, after all.
We have a war on merit in this country.
We should raise the age to vote to 25, as the human brain isn't fully mature until then. The only exception should be for veterans. Voting should only be allowed by independent people. No dependents, and absolutely no one on the public dole (with exception of veterans receiving the compensation owed them for serving). Immigrants should not get a vote, and nor should the eligible for any type of public assistance. They vote with their feet, and the endorse the society by moving to it. If they become sole US citizens, and their children are sole US citizens, and can speak/read/write English, their children (immigrants grandchildren) should be the first generation eligible to vote and receive public assistance is there is any.
This means no state employees vote. No welfare recipients vote. No one can vote themselves more benefits from public dole. This would also the vast majority of the time mean only one vote per household.

Thank God that our forefathers had the insight to establish an electoral college. They understood the importance of the rural population not being dictated to by dense population centers that could be easily manipulated by government fiat. America is a Constitutional Republic with regional representatives...NOT a democracy driven by social fads. God help us to return to our roots!!

To fix the EC, every state has 1 EC point, and it's based on the popular voat of the state, with D.C. Included to be the tie breaker. Now every state is just as important, and if you want to flood your state with illegals and criminals you will foot the bill, because there are no "extra" points because your state is so big.
The Electoral College has already been effectively circumvented by some states. They have made it a rule that their Electoral Colleges should vote according to the nationwide popular vote.
No need for a change to the Constitution. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact
OK. I am not an expert on the Constitution but I believe that the members of the Electoral College can vote however they like. is that not true?
It is usual to choose people that will vote for the candidate that won the popular vote but that is not set in concrete so all they need to do is exercise their votes differently.

Time to contest the vote
