2019-03-11 | Trump endorses permanent daylight saving time | TheHill

'“Making Daylight Saving Time permanent is O.K. with me!” Trump tweeted. '

'California and several other states are considering measures that would end the biannual clock changes between standard and daylight saving time. '

'Rubio introduced a similar measure in 2018. '

' That bill did not advance in the Senate. '

It's a stupid idea to begin with. We are no longer an agrarian society and we have electric lights. If it's that big of a problem for you, just get up earlier.

If I have more darkness on my drive to work if it means less darkness when I'm off work it sounds great to me.

I also have a plan for more darkness in africa and less here unless a more resource-efficient solution can be suggested.

Your plan intrigues me. An alternative is to reduce the global sum total of darkness. Solutions that are “final” are known to be effective for such issues.

It's actually dangerous at this point. People driving home at night etc instead of daylight.

One of the reasons to switch back to standard time is so that little grade school kids are not going to school in the dark. If you stay on daylight savings time all year, kids are walking to school buses, walking to schools in the dark in the morning during Winter.

If anything, stay on standard time permanently, but then people hate it that in the summer time, the sun is rising at 4am.

I don't think anything will get passed. Can't have little kids wandering around in the dark in the morning trying to find their bus stop.....and too easy for child predators to abscond with little kids under the cover of darkness....and as we know, child abduction, is a huge problem in this country.

An email I got from a colleague today:

Good Morning All,

According to some website thing that pops up on my computer every morning and won’t stop we have a new safety topic for today, specific.

Effects of Daylight Savings Time:

  1. Heart attack, so let’s take the elevator today.

  2. Increased Miscarriages

  3. Higher Workplace Injuries: The rate of workplace injuries the Monday after DST Increases by 5.7%. So, Let’s be real careful folks.

  4. Depression: Probably from being at work . . .

  5. More Car Accidents: Site peeps sleepy, depressed, etc. cuz had to go to work . . .

Moral of the story, we are not safety conscious because we came to work!

Yet somehow Alaska manages to do shit with the sun going nuts year around. I don't buy it. Dark days in the winter and Sunny nights in the summer.

All of which can be mitigated by a sign on the front door advertising your workplace's "New Summer Hours", provided those are a 1 hour shift of your winter hours.

DST is way better. Light at night, dark in the morning. Awesome. Then again, I’m a yuppie and not a farmer.

I don't care which, just pick one - standard, DST, or a 30 minute shift (permanent to split the difference). Just pick one.

This. "That's cool that you fixed the stupid clock-changing thing, Mr. President... but what are we going to do about the thousands of foreigners who are replacing the people who elected you? ....Bring in more, you say? Donald, I'm starting to question whether you are truly our guy or not..."

Naw, they're rather gonna make it a two hour switch four times a year just because he mentioned ending it.
