For the record, we would prefer a national shift to year-round daylight saving, which means more daylight in the evening during the winter, when more people are awake. A 2001 study by the California Energy Commission estimated that there might be small savings in energy usage by sticking with permanent daylight saving time.

For the record, I would personally prefer to keep standard time year 'round. Why on earth do we need the sun to stay up until 9:00 PM (or later in northern parts of the country) in the summer, anyway? And the whole thing is that 'noon' is supposedly when the sun is at its zenith in the sky, so that time can be discerned with a sundial. The Carter administration in the 70's tried adopting year 'round Daylight Savings, supposedly to save energy and it was a disaster. Spending waking hours in the darkness, and arriving to work during winter months while it's still cold and dark, is depressing. Plus, you had to turn the lights on each morning, then remember to shut them off after the eventual sunrise. (((the Commiefornia energy commission)))

I'm with you on this. I've never understood why people can't just adjust their schedules to whatever they like. The same thing goes for companies.

For the record, I've agreed with both the NYT and the LAT today. Sigh.

Okay then, one last time then off with its head, permanent DST. Boom, like tearing off a nasty old bandage.

Announce it tomorrow "That's it, I've changed for the last time". Monday at work, inform everyone they too can announce "That's it" and it can grow. Sensible people acting individually, expressing their relief of never having to do that again. And what a relief it will be.

2019-03-10 | Time’s running out on daylight saving shift - Los Angeles Times

'What Congress should not do is allow states to do their own thing, or force the nation to keep observing this outdated time shift. '

'We don’t save energy; the expected large-scale energy savings that drove the invention of daylight saving time during World War I never materialized in peacetime. '

' In fact, farmers were the main opponents of the 1949 ballot initiative that started the clock-changing tradition in California. '

'And though many people were told that the shift had something to do with agriculture, farmers apparently couldn’t care less about the numbers displayed on our timekeeping devices. ', "The length of day does not increase; even all our fancy technology can’t alter the tilt of Earth's axis as it orbits the sun."
