RFID chips started being openly manufactured in the 70s.

In the 80s, I was looking into using them in a law firm's library to track books within the building, as some attorneys weren't returning books to the shelves in a timely manner. A chip could be slipped into the spine of a book. If a book was missing from the library, the librarian would be able to ping that book's RFID chip and get it's location on a computer map of the building.

Now they can make chips small enough to go on ants.

Listen to the entire 15 minutes but if you jump to about 12:00 he begins to unveil that there's a small group of 4 with tech and wealth unheard of, controlling the world.

He and his friends called them 'the four horsemen' but couldn't learn who they were or what they called themselves. At 12:00 he begins to talk about his friend being killed while getting close to learning who they are.

The important take away is the 1/30th of an inch chip was 70's tech and by the early 80's it was microscopic and already had billions produced. They perfected the tech so much that a 2" antenna could read them from 120km in SPACE! This was the early 80's!
