Every night before bed I make sure the garage doors are down, the door from the garage to the house is locked and dead-bolted, the front doors are locked and dead-bolted and the patio doors are locked (including the inside screen doors). Twice.

We live in a low-crime city in an even lower-crime neighborhood.

I lean a chair under the doorknob in my bedroom at night. I know it won't stop somebody but they sure will have to wake me up to get in there.

I lock my bedroom door in case one of my roommates leaves the door unlocked and someone comes into steal stuff. I don't own anything worth stealing.

Damn I thought I was the only one that did this. My roommates always leave the door unlocked and it makes me want to fucking club them to death.

Before I go to sleep and/or whenever I come home I check every room of the house, including large closets. Not sure what I would do if I actually found an intruder, but I'd rather find one right away than have them jump out when I fall asleep. Drives me crazy when people in movies come home and are surprised by a bad guy hiding in the kitchen or closet or whatever.

Switch off the power strip by my bed before I leave for work. I saw a report of cheap usb chargers catching fire and now I'm terrified of my house burning down while I'm at work.

I always stare at the screen on my security cameras every chance i get. It's kind of wierd now that i think about it. Only one thing has happened in the 3 years of owning them, 2 low lives tried breaking into one of the cars in my driveway, i caught it just as i was on my way to bed, i thought about getting the 30-30 out and making them shit their pants, but i flicked on the outside lights and they pissed off. Wish i called the cops instead now.
