12ga is kind of a broad statement care to narrow that down?

Remington 1100. I thought about getting the Kel-Tec dual chamber shotgun.

Purely from track record if you want a "tactical" shotgun go with Mossberoor Benelli.

Realistically, 00 has gotten to be one of the best deals around. Remember when it was easily 1.50$ a round? Now it's closer to .80 cents. I know that wasn't what the op meant, just pointing it put.
I tell everyone I can to buy a nagant while they are still under 200. They are rising in price every year.

Its related to my question though, if he didn't have a field shotgun I was going to suggest that and trying his hand at trap or sporting clays

Nagant revolvers are still somewhat cheap. Also I think Makarovs are still affordable.
The thing is that as soon as they dry up the price shoots up. A decade ago I remember seeing AK's, PSLs, SKS's, dirt cheap to affordable.
I guess what I'm trying to say is to buy 2 or more. Actually buy 3 or 4. I think 4 is good. Whatever you get, buy 5 of them. Yeah 5.
It looks to me like you have all of your bases covered except for a long range rifle. Interestingly enough, Ruger just announced such a beast, and at an affordable price. Just sayin'....

You need a revolver.
Get a smith or a ruger and you'll have a huge choice of grips. You can usually fit a revolver to your hands much better than you can fit a pistol. You can dry-fire easily and you can do a 'blind-dummy' drill where you load one or two random empty cases and see that you don't flinch when you pull the trigger. You burn less ammo and shoot more carefully. Once you master that double-action pull you'll shoot every handgun better.
Get a .22 or a .357. If you get the .357 you can shoot anything from powder-puff .38 wadcutters to some pretty thumping hunting loads. The trajectory is flat for a handgun and you can reach out a long way, once you learn how.
And you don't have to chase brass.

Thanks for the input. I'll take a look. :)

If you get a .44 mag, you can also shoot .44 spc. That'd be pretty fun.
