The title is mis leading. The phone is not spying on you as such, it is all the apps people download. This is why every website wants you to install an app for ease of use. They want to really scrape as much data from you as possible.

Solution? Uninstall as many apps as you can or take away all their access privileges. No Siri, Alexa, Bixby, Google, FakeBook, WhatsApp, etc.

Whenever someone in our family gets a new cellphone, we notice that the ads change - not just on their phone, but on our computers as well. I think Google's ad system cross-references profiles and links people together.

Anyway, on a recent new phone, we had to manually block the microphone permission from Google services because turning "active listening" and "assistant" off did not disable "OK Google" on the phone - showing that active listening was still on.

There are also jammer apps you can get to disable your microphone.

This happened to me a few weeks ago:

My friend came over and told me that he was going out of town to an amway convention. (I know, I’ve tried to tell him how stupid it is but he won’t listen). The convention was in Birmingham Alabama. I have been to Birmingham several times so I told him a few places he needed to try and go while he was there. 10 minutes later I wanted to call my buddy whose last name is “Hassig” so I swiped down on my home screen to search for his name to pull it up. One of the first suggestions was “Hassig chiropractic Birmingham Alabama”. This has NEVER happened before when I searched his name on my phone. I fully believe that the phone listened to my conversation and skewed the results to include results in Birmingham.

I never see ads on my computer, but recently replaced a super old phone. There are literally ads on youtube videos! Seems you can 'skip' most of them after 5 or 10 seconds, but it's super annoying. If I start using it more, I might look to see if there's a version of uMatrix for phones.

I have an iPhone SE not exactly new and I get adds on YouTube and Xbox that I can skip after 5 sec

It’s because jewtybe want you to buy their premium service

uMatrix and uBlock do work on Firefox for Android (Fennec).

some company need to introduce a phone with tiny physics switches for all onboard input devices and network (under removable cover perhaps).

Member when every laptop had a wifi switch? Times are worse now (and I hate keeping electrical tape over my cameras-- you can do nothing to the microphone)
