If he was genuine he wouldn’t be getting any traction. He would be effectively deplatformed (not ceremonially deplatformed) and you’d never hear about him.

The fact he gets so much media attention tells you they want you to know about him. They paint him as a villain, which only energises his supporters more. People who agree with Tommy Robinson (or Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) stay loyal to him, instead of looking for more effective leaders elsewhere.

He is simply a containment vessel for the dissenting crowd, keeping them happy with his (always unverifiable) tales of heroism and derring do in prison and whatnot. A classic example of a controlled opposition character providing a pressure relief valve for pissed off hordes of anti-government types.

This is basically it. If he was not controlled he would be de-platformed and languishing in prison. It's as simple as that. I know a bit about this = Ive been to his marches and it's a couple of thousand illiterate drunks, many waving Star of Davids. He is controlled.
